I am not a spa girl. Whenever I’ve splurged on a facial, I’ve emerged red faced with a rash from the experience. Its not to say that I don’t enjoy a little DIY pampering and the Tei Spa Skin Spatula Ultrasonic Cleansing Tool (aka Tei Spa Sonic Spatula) has elevated my precious “Mommy Time” to a new level.
At any given moment, my skin is prone to sensitivity, grease-fits and just overall un-prettiness. As I edge up to the big 4-0, I find that keeping that coveted “youthful glow” becoming more and more elusive. No stranger to cosmetic products – my daily skin care routine includes at least 6-8 products from start to finish. What the Tei Spa Skin Spatula has done is allow me to gently exfoliate pores and increase product penetration with one tool.
What can ULTRASONIC VIBRATING WAVES do for you?

While on the high vibration (red light) setting which is meant for power washing the skin, the Skin Spatula feels close to a dull razor scraping across skin and has a slightly annoying sound that almost makes my teeth hurt. However, as the Spatula glides over moist skin (important) you immediately see an improvement in the overall texture. Its important not to press too hard – but you do need to be deliberate with your motions (see video below).
Sonic Delivery System may be used on Penetration Mode for daily use of product penetration by all skin types. Tools Average Vibration 20-27,000 per second with Frequency of 15-35 KHz per second.
The slightly curved shape makes it easy to make contact with skin around the nose and chin where I believe most people have problems with clogged pores. If you have visible solid debris in you pores, you may be tempted to use this to perform extractions, but simply use the Skin Spatula gently and more regularly as the cleansing results are cumulative. I only use the cleansing function about 3x a week since my skin is sensitive and I’m often using other exfoliating products (this took a little trial and error). Using the Skin Spatula prior to face masks really help to increase the efficacy, giving skin a truly spa-like glow.
The low vibration (green light) mode however, can be used nightly to really re-hydrate and feed skin before it benefits from rejuvenating sleep (however limited that is). I find that by using a slightly more generous application of a gel/water based serum, skin looks healthy and plump – which is especially beneficial when skin is looking lackluster or tired. Note: The Skin Spatula does get slightly warm and may feel like tiny “zaps” on the skin – but shouldn’t hurt or feel uncomfortable. Be sure to to do this step – spatula side down. It also helps to apply serum/gel to one section at a time so the product doesn’t dry out before you apply the spatula.
FREQUENCY & DURATION BY SKIN TYPE: Oily Skin (3-4x per week, up to 4 minutes), Combination Skin (2-3x per week, up to 3 minutes), Dry Skin (1-2x per week, up to 2 minutes).
The purchasing kill switch for the Tei Spa Skin Spatula (or Sonic Spatula) is the price. At $210, its already pricey – but the website only lists the Oscars 2012 Limited Edition Sonic Spatula at a whopping $350. The Oscars version comes with the Lavender HydraMist ($20), a HydraSkin Facial mask ($15) and a Gold Clutch, but I fail to see how that increases the value by $150. However, by using this device properly I have seen amazing results: incredibly smooth skin texture, less clogged pores (in about 2 weeks of use) and more hydrated skin overall (with daily use of the absorption mode).
Tei Spa should consider adjusting the price point on this incredible device – because it seriously makes a big difference in skin quality, even for the skin care addicted like me.

wow! sounds amazing! Do you know what the difference would be between this and a Clarisonic? I currently use Clarisonic, a few times 1-2 per week as it’s too abrasive for me to use daily. Thanks for the awesome review! x
It’s totally different (not better or worse) than the Clarisonic…they are both incredible devices. In general I think over exfoliating and over cleansing can be irritating, but when used correctly in the right duration and frequency can yield incredible results. I like the Spatula in my t-zone for stubborn clogs and the Clarisonic for overall maintenance. BTW – don’t use them both on the same day.
Hey everyone! Great news I just found an incredible promocode for TEI Spa. And its available for all to use on the Sonic Spatula and other TEI products. SUMMER20 will give you 20% off. But i believe it expires in a couple weeks. So, if you have been thinking of using some TEI Products on your skin, now is the perfect time!
And thanks for the great review, learned so much!
