PRODUCT RATING:★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ (6/10)

PRICE DETAILS: 1 fl.oz. $11.98 (♦♦♦♦)

PRESENTATION: Squeeze tube

TEXTURE & COVERAGE: Lightweight mousse texture with medium semi-matte coverage.

SKIN TYPES: All skin types.

SHADES REVIEWED: Maple (warm medium tan) and Oak (medium/dark neutral beige)

QUICK REVIEW: A standard lightweight silicone based foundation. Provides nice coverage but not the product for me.

the REVIEW (01/14/11): This new foundation from Covergirl has a souffle-like texture that spreads evenly over skin thanks to silicone. It is surprisingly light – but has a smoothing medium coverage. 340 Maple was a true yellow based beige, a first for Covergirl, which typically leans toward the pinkish or grey-beige side. Unfortunately, I didn’t see a lot of options for yellow based skin. I don’t like the advertisement that claims a “$180 foundation can’t beat its lightweight feel”. Crafty wording – but it doesn’t mean its better.

Natureluxe™ wore nicely through a typical humid day. It didn’t feel heavy – but did need touching up after about 4 hours. It had a nice, smooth finish and light-medium coverage without looking made up. It does have a lighter feel than expensive foundations which are normally laden with skin care ingredients and a higher percentage of pigments – but did not provide the coverage and finish that more expensive foundations offer.

This is a product that is worth looking at if you refuse to spend your beauty dollars on foundation but want a sophisticated finish. Personally, the amount of dimethicone in this product is an actual con – since I’ve found it to literally clog my pores and cause breakouts. My preference is still a foundation that costs, and delivers, a little more.

the UPDATE: (05/11/2011): Unlike the NatureLuxe Gloss Balm (I tried 225 Anemone – a vibrant sheer red that’s perfect for Summer) which I was surprised by – I had high hopes for NatureLuxe Silk Foundation and it just fell short. It has too much silicone which made my face feel extra greasy during the days when humidity was high (more than normal). I also have issues with the color selection which has very few yellow based shades – it was a bit unfair for me to try an assess its quality when I was fixated on having a pinkish face.

I DO love that they have a 2x Money-Back Guarantee – which shows that I may just be the minority here because that takes a lot of confidence. So give it a try – you can always get 2x your money back if you don’t like it.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: Luxurious, lightweight feel. Infused with jojoba and cucumber extract. Silky formula goes on smooth for a polished finish.
RECOMMENDED APPLICATION: Using the sponge puff, apply NatureLuxe Silk Foundation under your eyes and any other areas with darkness or discoloration. Next, apply a small amount to the center of your cheeks and forehead. Avoid creating a “mask” by blending towards the edges of your face, decreasing intensity towards the hairline. Don’t rub! Lightly dabbing will remove excess foundation without smearing or removing the good stuff.

  1. I’m using this in Aspen, which is a nice match for me. I like this foundation for everyday. I don’t have any issues with the silicone/dimethicone families of ingredients, so I can enjoy the barely-there feel of this product without worrying about breakouts. I do use a touch of Coty Airspun Extra Coverage finishing powder over this, and it really is like I’m not wearing any foundation at all. For day, it’s enough coverage to even out my skintone, cover a few minor discolorations, but not give me a ridiculously “done-up” look in the bright California sunshine. For evening, I prefer something a with a little more pigment. I would consider this somewhere between a tinted moisturizer and a liquid or souffle foundation. It’s a nice entry for CG — I’d all but given up on them lately. I also tried the lip color, but the coral shade I chose had flecks of gold glitter in it — no thanks! Not at my age. Maybe for the younger girls (one assumes the younger girls are their target audience given their spokesmodel is Taylor Swift).
