QUICK REVIEW: I always keep a 32oz. bottle on hand – its perfect for light makeup removal, morning cleansing, as a shaving cream and massage catalyst (I use it with a cellulite massager).

the REVIEW (2/3/2011): This was probably the first Philosophy product I tried long, long ago – and I used the whole bottle and moved on to something else. Then I went through a essential oil paranoia stage (I insisted that it made me get a rash – I still think some do) and avoided it all together. Flash forward about 15 years – and I got this as a 100 point Beauty Insider reward from Sephora after I had my 2nd baby and really wanted something fast and easy.

After the itsy bitsy bottle ran out, I got another small bottle thinking I would tire of it and move on. I think subconsciously I just did not want to like it. After that bitsy bottle ran out, I went back to get a bigger size.  You can either get the little size for approx. $3.33/oz. or the largest size (32oz. with pump) for approx. $1.58/oz. I walked out with the biggest bottle of cleanser I’ve ever owned.

This cleanser is great because its a cross between a creamy cleanser and a foaming one; you can use it around the eye area with relatively little irritation (if you put it right IN your eye – it burns a tiny bit); and it removes light makeup without having to follow up with a cleansing step. Purity Made Simple rinses fairly easily, leaving the skin soft without being over stripped. I personally like to use it when I have light makeup, before cleansing when I have on heavier makeup (it does not remove heavy duty products or waterproof mascara) or as a gentle cleanser in the morning. Its other uses: shaving legs, massage “gel” for cellulite areas or sore muscles and for my 8 year old to remove waterproof sunscreen from her face without burning her eyes or irritating her skin. I also love that it has a pump!

Its not glamorous. It really doesn’t do anything fancy. But it has managed to be a staple in my routine (my bottle is about 1/2 empty and I purchased 07/23/10) – which is a beautiful thing.

PURPOSE GENTLE CLEANSING WASHPURPOSE GENTLE CLEANSING WASH ($7.99 for 12 fl.oz.). After running out of the Philosophy Purity Made Simple, I purchased this on whim since it supposedly did not sting your eyes. At 66¢/ounce (Purity is $1.48/ounce) while Purpose did not have the same creamy lotion texture as Purity, it did a good job at removing light makeup, rinsed clean and did not sting my eyes at all. Although this product has sulfates and fragrance – Purity Made Simple has Sodium Trideceth Sulfate and several parabens.

Overall, one of the better drugstore cleansers (and my personal favorite).
