QUICK REVIEW: A nighttime elixir rich in botanical oils and no parabens – but did not offer much “recovery”.

the REVIEW (Original Post: 03/09/10): I’ve been staring at the Neutrogena Clinical skincare line for about a week now – but I’m glad I didn’t buy it and decided to get the Kiehl’s Dermatologist Solutions Line Reducing Concentrate instead. While I was at the Kiehl’s counter, I remembered that Jean Godfrey-June from Lucky Magazine uses the Midnight Recovery Concentrate over makeup as a pick me up. It also seemed like a great substitute to the Quintessential Serum(which is out of my price range)  by Tammy Fender, who’s products I’m currently using – and love BTW.

So far I’ve only just put it on my skin, but I have to say that while botanical, it doesn’t have an overwhelming scent. It also isn’t burning (like lots of products do) and my skin has soaked up all but a faint trace of the concentrate. It claims to improve skin’s appearance overnight – and since I’m SUPER tired and feeling a bit washed out lately, I’ll be updating this promptly in the AM. Good night!

03/19/10: Hmm…I’m kind of on a fence about this product. I like it – it didn’t break me out or give me a rash like I thought it would. Worked great under the Tammy Fender Repair Balm too. Would I recommend it to a friend? Probably not. It didn’t yield the magnificent results I thought it would.  I was still notably dry the morning after – especially if I used it alone. BUT, I’m not giving up on it yet.

02/25/11: I really wanted to like this product, but it ended up in my “Dead Zone” (where the abandoned and unused products go) after a few months of trying to work it into my routine. It has a great scent and impressive ingredient list but just did not “revive” my skin like I had hoped. Honestly, I have had better results using plain Evening Primrose Oil or Jojoba Oil.

KIEHL’S MIDNIGHT RECOVERY CONCENTRATE DETAILS:
KIEHL’S MIDNIGHT RECOVERY CONCENTRATE PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: “The potent 99.8% naturally-derived and paraben-free botanical elixir works all night to regenerate, repair and replenish the skin barrier for younger-looking skin by morning. The rich blend of naturally replenishing botanical oils including Squalane, Evening Primrose, and a blend of essential oils known for their therapeutic, balancing, and antioxidant effects, works with the skin’s natural nocturnal activity to dramatically restore skin by morning. This lightweight, readily absorbed elixir effectively restores skin’s healthy appearance overnight, resulting in smoother, more radiant complexion by morning. Enriched with Squalane, a botanical lipid similar in molecular structure to natural skin lipids, Evening Primrose Oil, rich in Omega-6 Fatty Acids and Essential Oils inlcuding Lavender, our formula provides a boost of intensive moisture to depleted skin. These natural oils instantly penetrate the skin surface to help replenish it. Our recovery concetrate works at night when skin is most receptive to repairing itself from daily aggresors. Wtih skin hydrated, supple and soft, rest assured you can say goodnight to tired-looking skin.”
RECOMMENDED SKIN TYPE: All skin types, especially dull and stressed skin. Although I don’t think oily skin should use it in the t-zone.
RECOMMENDED APPLICATION: Apply 2-3 drops on cleansed skin. Gently press fingertips to cheeks, forehead, and chin to evenly distribute the application before gently massaging it into the skin. Can be worn alone or under moisturizer. I also read in Lucky magazine (Jean Godfrey-June) that it worked well as a pick-me-up over makeup (in dry areas only).

  1. Doing a review on this product. It’s definately one of the best serums out there and it has made a difference on my skin after just two weeks!
