KEY FEATURES: Probiotics and peptides.

QUICK REVIEW: Nearly identical to Lancome’s Genefique Concentrate for a third of the price. However, both provide lackluster results.

the REVIEW (3/4/2011): My initial interest in L’Oreal’s Youth Code Serum Intense was to do a side-by-side comparison with Lancome’s Genefique Youth Activating Concentrate. Since both are formulated by the same parent company (L’Oreal) I was sure they would be similar. Its almost shocking how much so. The plus side to Youth Code is the ingredient similarities to Genefique. Luckily, Youth Code has Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 (Matrixyl 3000) and Adenosine (a wrinkle fighting amino acid).

Youth Code Serum Intense has a light fluid gel like texture that absorbs readily into the skin. One pump was enough for the whole face and neck area. It did not leave any sticky or tacky residue on the skin. Youth Code will probably offer enough hydration for oily skins and I did not feel the immediate need to apply a moisturizer on top (like I do with watery serums). There was no burning or itching and I did not experience any initial breakouts or rash.

While I haven’t compiled enough experience with this product to make a solid assessment (it really does not inspire me at all), it is a decent product if you ignore the inflated claims. The initial results will also depend on the condition of your skin prior to its application. If you are experiencing dehydration, tired and dull skin, there will be a notable improvement. Personally, I did not see any improvement since my skin was “behaving” at the time.

UPDATES

03/28/2011: I tried this a few more times along with the Lancome Genefique and I like the Youth Code “better”. There still isn’t any remarkable results, but it does feel nice and moisturizes well. The bottom line is if you have to try this new breed of “youth activating” serums – save yourself some money and get the Youth Code. Or better yet, drop a bit more and get Origins Plantscription.

MONSTER BITES: Bifida Ferment Lysate (from theb-spot.com) – Bifida ferment lysate is an easy to use probiotic that has both in vitro (in a dish) and in vivo (human) studies that show its effectiveness in stabilizing our  immune system, making our skin more stress resistant (who couldn’t use that), providing nutrients to our skin, and protecting our skin against environmental aggressors.

This ingredient is also found in sister product Lancome Genefique Youth Activating Concentrate, Estee Lauder Advance Night Repair, SK1N Probiotics.
