MAC COSMETICS FASHION FLOWER SUMMER 2011 COLLECTION
OVERVIEW & FIRST THOUGHTS REVIEW
For a while, MAC’s collections got lost in translation for me. While I applauded their ingenuity, sometimes their glossy and often avant-garde imagery overplays the actual product. For example – the literal translations of the Wonder Woman (which would have made a fantastic limited edition Viva Glam Red) and Quite Cute collections. Summer 2011’s Fashion Flower, is just the opposite. The image is, to be blunt, creepy. It doesn’t quite personify the loveliness of this culmination of hues – which evoked, in my mind, this scene from Pride & Prejudice (which I loved).
Aside from the beautifully embossed powders and shadows, Fashion Flower offers a subdued palette of shades that can easily be added to any existing palette to add a touch of color – without it overwhelming the whole look. My favorites are Bows & Curtseys, a metallic hunter green (which would look smashing on brown eyes) and Summer Shower Lipstick, a sheer shimmering aqua which it perfect for muting or adding a special effect to existing shades (much like Kevyn Aucoin’s The Liquid Cyber Lip in Alurabliss).
