QUICK REVIEW: These cute and convenient masks come in a big variety of “flavors” but essentially offer instant hydration.

the REVIEW (05/17/2011): The idea and application of pre-moistened cloth face masks has always been one of my favorites – the results are both immediate and cumulative, giving skin an immediate boost of hydration and other skin care benefits. Thus far I has used higher end versions of this traditionally Asian application – including Koh Gen do Macro Vintage Essence Mask (6 applications $110) and Creme de la Mer Radiant Facial (8 applications $320). I didn’t BUY the La Mer mask – I got to try it out, which was one of the perks of working in cosmetics. They were both pleasant experiences for sure – but luckily for us all, I enjoyed the My Beauty Diary Masks equally – if not just a little more.

HOW I DISCOVERED MY BEAUTY DIARY: I came across My Beauty Diary during a trip to a Don Quiote store, where they had a free standing display of the masks. My first purchase was the Sake Yeast Mask since I was doing a review on Rice Force and focused on rice based skin care. After I got home and researched My Beauty Diary a bit further, I decided to pick up the Apple Polyphenol Mask since it was recommended for large pores and the 7 Best Sellers Set which had 7 different masks. After trying the Sake Yeast Mask, I was hooked and also picked up the Strawberry Yogurt Mask.

The PRODUCT: Each mask is individually wrapped and soaked with essence – the Asian version of serums. You place the wet fiber mask over the face (it has holes for your eyes, nose and mouth) and leave it on for 20 minutes or more. There was some getting used to the “wetness” of the mask since it literally was dripping with essence – so I take the excess and apply it to my arms and chest. The Apple Polyphenol Mask smells lightly of Green Apple candy, which I found quite pleasant. It has a glycerin base, some parabens and one of the ingredients is Apple Extract – so there is actual apple in it. Not a natural product by any means – but pleasant all the same.

The RESULTS: The Apple Polyphenol Mask did a great job of hydrating my skin, as did the other “flavors”. I’m not sure if its the scent or different ingredients, but this one in particular made my skin a little itchy, so I don’t recommend it for sensitive skin types. I ended up rinsing it off and following with my normal routine. When I woke up in the morning, my skin was not oily and was very soft and glowing.

My Beauty Diary Apple Polyphenol Mask was not my favorite of the bunch, but was redeemed by its fresh, exhilarating scent and glowing results.

TIP: These masks are absolute perfection for those who travel – you can easily pop one on during and after your flight to prevent dehydrated skin.
