Estee Lauder CyberWhite Brilliant Cells Collection Review

Estee LauderEstee Lauder CyberWhite Brilliant Cells

“Finally satisfy your quest to brighten dark spots and reveal your skin’s inner light.” – Estée Lauder

Note: Estee Lauder CyberWhite Brilliant Cells (not to be confused with CyberWhite EX) which launched in February 2011 is currently NOT available for sale in the US. However, it can be purchased at select travel retail locations like DFS Galleria stores, here and abroad. It is available at the Waikiki DFS Galleria location.

FINAL COLLECTION RATING: ★★★★★★★★☆☆(8/10)

The products available at travel retail locations like DFS Galleria in Waikiki offers different varieties of products that are normally not available in the US market. Many of these products are aimed toward the Asian market, which places a heavy emphasis on brightening and whitening. Estee Lauder’s answer to this demand is CyberWhite, a hydroquinone and kojic acid free comprehensive collection of skin care products that claim to give the skin a more uniform tone and appearance.

What makes Estee Lauder CyberWhite Brilliant Cells different from other whitening/brightening systems on the market? Brilliant Cells targets four different types of discoloration: Stubborn Age Spots, Small Surface Spots, Barely Visible Spots and Recurring Spots. Click the image below to see details each type of discoloration and how Brilliant Cells aims to correct them.

One of my personal most visible signs of aging is my skin tone. After years of surfing in my 20’s, having two children and just pushing 40 – my skin is mercifully still in good shape, except for the stubborn discoloration on my cheeks and the overall lack of “glow”. On top of the hormonal/environmental aggressors my skin has weathered,  I don’t sleep much (working on this blog, a part-time job and family maintenance – I’m lucky if I get 4-5 hours a night), could eat better and should log in more running/exercise time. Needless to say, all this has taken a toll.

the RESULTS: Switching gears from oil-control & preventative skin care to a routine that was more “issue intensive” did take a little time to get used to. Estee Lauder CyberWhite Brilliant Cells works best when used together in its entirety – from the cleanser to the moisturizer, although I successfully edited the steps to fit my current skin care needs. The stand out product was the Full Spectrum Brightening Essence – which increased the effectiveness of the collection 10 fold. My other favorite product was the Full Spectrum Brightening Cleanser which had a luxuriously thick foam and did not dry out my skin.

My routine incorporated the CyberWhite Brilliant Cells Full Spectrum Brightening Cleanser, Moisture Lotion, Essence, Moisture Cream and the EX Extra Intensive Spot Corrector. Within the first few days of using CyberWhite AM and PM – in spite of feeling a little oily from the cream, my skin was noticeably brighter with no breakouts. By brighter, I mean lighter overall. In fact, it was almost too bright! I continued to use CyberWhite exclusively for almost 3 weeks and was very pleased with the results – although I’m sure I will appreciate the benefits a little more when my body is back to being lighter – the contrast between my Summer tan (part real, part faux) and my CyberWhite face is a little drastic!

FINAL ROAR! There’s normally a comfortable nostalgia that surrounds Estee Lauder products – possibly the light perfumed lotions and creams reminds me of when I started using department store brands. CyberWhite Brilliant Cells however, has a very modern and comprehensive approach to the needs of not only Asian skin, but for anyone who has an issue with pigmentation and overall discoloration. I highly recommend the Full Spectrum Brightening Essence in particular – even when used alone or with other products (I actually layered this over more liquid serums) it still gave my skin an unusually bright and clear look.

Estee Lauder CyberWhite Brilliant Cells Full Spectrum Brightening Cleanser

the REVIEW: A divine cleansing experience, a pea-sized dab of Brightening Cleanser is enough to envelope skin in a creamy lather. On occasion, this did make my skin feel a little tight – and worked better for me as a PM option and there was little or no residue left on my skin or on my cotton pad while using the Moisture Lotion.  I’m not completely sold on its importance in making this collection work since it is simply washed down the drain, but there is something soothing and nostalgic about Estee Lauder’s packaging, scent and feel that makes it a great product to have on hand.

Product Description: “Ultra-gentle skin-cushioning foam that thoroughly eliminates impurities from skin without disturbing its protective moisture barrier. Helps awaken skin’s youthful glow. Skin looks incredibly clean, fresh and clear. AM & PM.”

Estee Lauder CyberWhite Brilliant Cells Brightening Moisture Lotionthe REVIEW: This is appropriately called Brightening Moisture Lotion since in the Asian market, lotions are actually a moisture rich/refreshing “toner” step – and this is not your average toner. I’m not normally a fan of toners/lotions – so Moisture Lotion started out at a disadvantage. I did appreciate the extra moisture on occasion – its almost as moisturizing as a lightweight serum or lightweight moisturizer and could almost stand on its own.

Although Full Spectrum Brightening Moisture Lotion has a water and alcohol denat base, it is not drying, has a light scent and has similar skin care components as the other treatment products in the line. It does leave a slight moisturizing film – which isn’t unpleasant, but may take some getting used to for those who prefer a “clean” feeling toning step.

In all honesty, I skipped this step quite often because it just isn’t part of my regular routine. If I use a toning step, I normally opt for a more clarifying toner or botanical water just to hydrate my skin before applying my serums and creams – and even then, I still don’t use one every time I cleanse. However, those who want an extra hydrating boost or feel dry/dull after cleansing will like the instant results CyberWhite Brilliant Cells Full Spectrum Brightening Moisture Lotion offers.

Product Description: “An instant surge of refreshing hydration infused with advanced brightening technologies. Softens, soothes and conditions skin. An essential step that prepares skin to receive the full benefits of the entire CyberWhite Brilliant Cells System so it looks flawless, luminous and unbelievably bright. AM & PM.”

Estee Lauder CyberWhite Brilliant Cells Full Spectrum Brightening Essencethe REVIEW: The undeniable star of the CyberWhite series, CyberWhite Brilliant Cells Full Spectrum Brightening Essence did not fail to dazzle me. It is a medium weight serum with a slight opalescence, a light scent and absorbs well – leaving just a trace behind. It has the highest amount of Acetyl Glucosamine, which is the ingredient that is a natural sugar derivative that speeds away melanin-darkened skin cells.

Well, it must work, because along with the cleanser, this was the only treatment step I adhered to during my trial run and really changed my opinion of the overall collection of CyberWhite Brilliant Cells products. Described as the “key” to the brightening synergy of the entire system – I would dare say if you are not using the Essence, the other products will not give you the same bright, glowing skin on their own.

Estee Lauder just released the Idealist Even Skintone Illuminator – but the products have different ingredient lists, so its not a repackaged product. I’m looking forward to trying the Idealist as I’m sure the results will be similar – but is a more accessible product.

Overall, I was very happy with CyberWhite Brilliant Cells Full Spectrum Brightening Essence since it has been one of the few brightening products I was able to use long enough to see results without any breakout or rash. If there is one product in the system that is a must for dull or discolored skin, this is it.

Product Description: The key to the unstoppable brightening synergy of the entire system. With out most advanced anti-spot and skin illuminating technologies.

CYBERWHITE BRILLIANT CELLS Full Spectrum Brightening Moisture Creme

1.7oz. $55 (Hard plastic jar)

PRODUCT RATING: ★★★★★★ (6/10)

Estee Lauder Brilliant Cells Full Spectrum Brightening Moisture Creamthe REVIEW: CyberWhite Brilliant Cells Full Spectrum Brightening Moisture Creme was part of the set I received and in all fairness, would not have been the option I would have selected for my skin type. I would have chose the Milky Lotion which is a lighter weight moisturizer. Still, during the colder and drier months, this would make a great choice for those with dry or combination skin.

The texture of Moisture Cream is a step above a gel-cream – fairly light on contact, very moisturizing, but left a slight residue on the skin when applied with the Moisture Lotion and Essence. The Essence on its own provided enough moisture (its humid and hot right now) and I didn’t see any real difference when I skipped the cream on occasion. Like the Moisture Lotion, those with a drier skin type or who prefer a little more moisture will like the Moisture Cream or the Rich Moisture Cream. I will shelve this product for a few months until things cool off and give it another try. For now, the Full Spectrum Brightening Essence is more than sufficient on its own.

Product Description: “Deep down hydration and extra comfort in a luscious, skin-nourishing cream. Helps rebuild skin’s moisture barrier. Absorbs easily so skin feels smoother, supple, looks luminous and more even toned. AM & PM.”

CYBERWHITE EX Extra Intensive Spot Corrector

.85fl.oz. $78 (Plastic tube)

PRODUCT RATING: ★★★★★★★★(8/10)

Estee Lauder CyberWhite EX Extra Intensive Spot Correctorthe REVIEW: This product is from the original CyberWhite EX line that Estee Lauder introduced a little over a year ago. While the aesthetics of Extra Intensive Spot Corrector did leave me wanting – the Brilliant Cells packaging does lend a space-age feel to the product – I was amazed by its effective yet gentle formulation.

EX Extra Intensive Spot Corrector has a medium weight serum-like texture that is easy to control and apply to specific areas of concern – for me, its my cheeks and upper lip area.  It did not irritate my skin, which was a plus since more aggressive lightening products almost always leave me with bumpy, red skin. While I did see an overall improvement in the clarity of my skin while using the CyberWhite routine, there was very little difference in my main discoloration. Keep in mind that pigmentation issues take time to treat and that said, I like that this is targeted, so I can continue to use this regardless of what other products I’m using.

Product Description: “Intensively targets stubborn age spots with 100% accuracy. Loaded with our Clarity Recovery Proteins and Melanin Dissolving Technology.”
