QUICK REVIEW: I’m can’t comment on long term benefits (I only used the sample size), but the immediate brightening effect is noticeable.

the REVIEW (09/06/2011): Years ago, Estee Lauder had an awesome serum called Fruition. Some may fondly remember the deep blue bottle. The mere scent of that product prompts a certain nostalgia, since it was one of my first positive (and pricey) skin care experiences. I must confess that while Estee Lauder’s star product, Advanced Night Repair remains one of the most reliable (and ever changing to keep up with technology) formulations, the other serums left me wanting. The original Idealist, which took the place of Fruition, made me breakout – and all subsequent reformulations did the same.

Enter Idealist Even Skintone Illuminator. At first I was very reluctant. There was that pretty aqua toned bottle with promises of better skin. Bitter thoughts of “It’s still not Fruition” crossed my mind. Still, since this was the company that makes Double Wear foundation, Ideal Light Concealer (my all time favorite eye concealer) and my new favorite Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee – I decided to give it a shot.

Idealist Even Skintone Illuminator is a medium weight, light lotion textured serum that uses a variety of silicones to give it an ultra-silky feel. The serum is a pearled white/gold and gives the skin an immediate glow, while the silicone smooths out the surface texture of the skin – making it appear more even toned. It has a slight scent – much like Fruition, which was a big plus.  I kept this out of my t-zone and blemish prone areas due to not only the silicones (they make me breakout sometimes) but the extra “glow” accentuated my oilier areas.

Since the weather is quite warm, I did not feel inclined to follow this with additional moisturizer – but it is recommended, especially for those with drier skin types. I started using this once a day (to test sensitivity) and moved up to twice a day for about a week.

the RESULTS: I enjoyed using Idealist Even Skintone Illuminator because I walked into the trial without having any great expectations. Honestly, any OTC topical formulation isn’t going to have a big impact on well-earned age/sun spots. It does have the potential of minimizing the appearance of minor pigmentation issues like acne scars or surface discoloration. With that in mind, I really liked using this product. Within a week, my skin was a bit “happier” looking and I liked the immediate illuminating benefits of the slightly iridescent serum.

the FINAL ROAR: Idealist Even Skintone Illuminator will not get rid of stubborn or severe skin tone challenges. While the formulation lacks proven pigment-busting powerhouse ingredients and the improvements are superficial at best, it does deliver an overall brighter, more even tone, texture and is a pleasure to use.
