Week of 09/12/2011
In my 20’s I was a surfing makeup artist who moonlighted as the lead singer of a unknown band called Freshly Squeezed. Flash forward over 10 years and the original core members and I have regrouped to form Mommy Fortuna & the Midnight Carnival – a purely for fun alternative cover (for now) band. We have our first gig on September 16 and I’m excited to create a new stage persona – which is basically me with lots of black eye liner.
In celebration of our return to the stage, I’ll be duplicating a look that can be created with Ultraflesh Black Magic – the Ultimate Jet Black Eyeliner Collection ($39) and donning a pair of Shu Uemura Mink Lashes (try Shu Uemura Black Luxe $23). Otherwise the uniform will be the same. Black tank top, jeans and bare feet. I’ll be sure to post the finished look next week!
←Fresh Sugar Passion Tinted Lip Treatment SPF 15 ($22.50, sephora.com). I adore the gorgeous metal packaging of this yummy lemon scented lip balm. This shade has a warm/cool balanced red that compliments any skin tone, SPF 15 and hydrating oils to keep lips beautifully healthy. A great addition
→UltraFlesh Perfect Reds 6-Piece Set ($29, sephora.com). With a collection of 3 matte reds (cherry red, brick red and bright orange red) and 3 sheer reds in the same tones, this set provides a complete range of reds in the ideal seasonal size. Try a variety of holiday red lips without any commitment and throw the tiny chic tubes into your evening bag for on-the-go touch ups.
On a recent trip to Neiman Marcus Ala Moana, Laura from the La Praire counter was kind enough to give me samples of their Platinum Collection. With prices from $350 – $1000, this is a line that only a privileged few can afford to experience.
The products on this week’s menu: Cellular Cream Platinum Rare ($650-$1000), Cellular Serum Platinum Rare ($650), Cellular Eye Cream Platinum Rare ($350) and Cellular Power Charge Night ($475).
This will officially be the most expensive skin care I’ve tried to date (3Lab WW Cream at $425 would be second). Stay tuned for what I’m sure will be an interesting review.
Bobbi Brown was the first to create a complete foundation range with yellow undertones and now she reinvents mineral makeup. While the formulation is not completely “natural”, it includes a Vitamin C & E Complex, Glycerin, Soybean Extract, Ceramides and Sodium Hyaluronate to give skin a healthy, smooth, hydrated look and feel. Available in 9 skin tone correct shades from Alabaster to Rich at bobbibrowncosmetics.com.
