SEASON 13 (DECEMBER 2011) SELECTIONS
ABOUT BEAUTYFIX: This quarterly cosmetic product sampling program is one of the few that allow you to select your own products, most of which are full size or deluxe trial size. For $49.99 (shipping is free), you choose 8 products plus receive a cosmetic bag.
PROS: The items I chose this quarter are worth well over $400! While this program is more expensive than BirchBox ($10/month) or New Beauty Test Tube ($29.95 + S/H/quarterly) – its the best offer for product junkies like me who are often underwhelmed by the products in other programs or prefer to choose their own products. Plus, I love Dermstore – they ship free (even to Hawaii) and have incredible customer service.
CONS: Selection could be more diverse – there is a definite lack in makeup products offered and I’d like to see more brand variety. You also have to be sure to order your Fix quick, because some of the more popular items “sell out”. The price – although depending on what you select, its a great value.
WHAT I PICKED FOR MY FIX:
Elizabeth Grant Biocollasis Complex Total Regeneration Ultimate Cellular Concentrate ($99). This is the second time I’ve chosen this product (I gave my first bottle to a friend). It acts more like a light (but intense) moisturizer vs. a serum which will give any skin type a plumping boost. The formulation would be better if it didn’t have parabens and fragrance, but still a nice chance to try a luxury priced product that performs well.
SkinMedica TNS Lip Plump System ($55). This two step lip treatment is one of my favorites and delivers softer, plumper lips. I use the Lip Renewal step more often since it absorbs well and doesn’t leave a film on my lips. The plumping step isn’t as effective as FusionBeauty’s lip plumper, but a little dab before lipstick really gives the lips a smoother look.
Kelly Teegarden Organics Vitality Rose and Cucumber Eye Cream (Sample Size. Full Size: $30, 1.18 fl.oz.). While this product isn’t completely organic, it has a promising list of ingredients. Its formulated to soothe, reduce puffiness and banish under eye darkness while rescuing eyes from signs of aging, dryness and lack of luminosity. Those of you with those issues, raise your hands (Me!). Lets keep our fingers crossed on this one!
Note: This was a sample size – not a full sized product, which is okay since I did not care for the formula.
Kinerase PhotoFacials Night Moisturizer & Day Moisturizer SPF 50 ($100 for set. 1oz. each & includes 2oz. Daily Exfoliating Cleanser). These treatments utilize SepiWhite™MSH and SepiCalm™VG to even out skin tone and restore firmness. Kinerase products tend to be no-nonsense and deliver reliable results. Each product is available as a BeautyFix selection if you want to try the full line.
BeautyFix Large Cosmetics Bag ($20). I’ve gotten several of these and they have certainly come in handy. Large enough to fit a few diapers, wipes and a change of clothes – I use it to organize toddler basics or to keep my necessities from getting lost in my larger handbags. It would also be perfect for storing lingerie while traveling.
LaRocca 24k C-Gold Reparative Primer ($90, 1oz.). While primarily a silicone based primer, I’m curious to see if this product will make a difference in skin appearance and makeup wear without clogging pores or causing irritation like most silicone based primers. At $90, I’m hoping it delivers amazing results!
Jane Iredale Mystikol Powder Eyeliner and Highlighter in Citrine ($20). This duo sided smduge and crease proof liner creates a smokey effect on the eye and also includes a highlighting color. I’ve been wanting to try this product and if it works – will consider the Mystikol Powder Eyeliner-Highlighter Pencil Box ($90).
Nick Chavez Ultra Shine Honey-Pepperment Conditioner ($20, 8oz.). This honey-peppermint scented conditioner may be the perfect partner for my favorite Philip B. Peppermint and Avocado Volumizing and Clarifying Shampoo ($28).
