Year of the Dragon Inspired Cosmetics | Kung Hei Fat Choi 2012

Dragons are fantastical mythical creatures that span virtually every culture – carrying with them magic, luck, hope and even fear. On January 23, 2012 we celebrate the Chinese New Year is dedicated to this wondrous beast. Since its a more charismatic member of the Chinese Zodiac (I’m born on the Year of the Rat – no cute makeup looks here) I’ve put together a list of Dragon inspired cosmetics, bath products and more.

Note: That’s a Chinese Lion – used in famous Chinese Lion Dances…not a Chinese Dragon.

LITTLE DRAGON GIRLSThis Hawaii born line of clothing, stationary and accessories, Little Dragon Girls, encourages all the girls of the world to embrace the dragons we have inside! I personally love their comfortable tunics and picked up a few kid’s tees for my daughter who is into dragons. They even have a cool line of Eco-Friendly Totes featuring their fierce characters!

LUSH DRAGON'S EGG BATH BOMB $5.95LUSH DRAGON’S EGG BATH BOMB ($5.95, LUSH stores). I picked this up for my daughter (the dragon obsessed) and it instantly became a family favorite. Not only is it fun (it crackles and emits colorful “fire” after you drop one into a warm bath) but it smells like a delicious lemon drop – but with a slightly sophisticated twist thanks to Bergamot Oil (my favorite). We were actually surprised there was no baby dragon inside – its that awesome.

*Tip – Add a splash of LUSH It’s Raining Men Shower Gel for a Honey-Lemon scented bath. Yummy!

Get China Doll matte red lips with Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl ($24, The rich sensuous scent of Cartier Le Baiser du Dragon Eau de Parfum ($100, embodies the mystery of the mythical beast. Always a classic, Chanel Nail Colour in Dragon ($26, is the perfect stand out red lacquer. Put a modern twist on the traditional red lip with Shiseido Shimmering Rouge in Golden Dragon ($25).

HELLO KITTY YEAR OF THE DRAGON MIRRORLUSH RED DRAGON SOAPHello Kitty 2012 Year of the Dragon Compact Mirror ($18, limited edition Sephora exclusive). This cute kitty shaped mirror has “Happy New Year” or Kung Hei Fat Choi in Chinese characters printed on the mirror.

LUSH Red Dragon Soap ($7.95, Shaped like the celebrated Chinese dragon, this fanciful soap is scented with their popular Karma fragrance and is sure to bring you good luck…even if its only in the shower!

For the skin – one of the new “hot” ingredients is a tree sap known as Dragon’s Blood. Herb Pharm Dragon’s Blood ($12, Down to Earth). This 100% pure Dragon’s Blood or croton lechleri sap has anti-inflammatory properties – I use a dab when I have a blemish.  Rodial Dragon’s Blood Sculpting Gel ($95, This new product has a super plumping formula and helps reduce redness. Peter Thomas Roth Laser-Free Resurfacing Eye Serum ($58, A concentrated eye serum that reduces all signs of aging and fatigue around the delicate eye area. You can also read my Peter Thomas Roth Laser-Free Resurfacing Serum review.

PHILOSOPHY FULL OF FORTUNE SET (2012)Philosophy Full of Fortune Cookie Trio ($22, Yum! Deliciously fun and scented like an orange/almond cookie, this adorable set includes a sheer mauve Lip Shine, 4oz. 3-in-1 Shampoo, Shower Gel and Bubble Bath and 2oz. Body lotion (perfect for taking good luck with you) in Philosophy’s new Full of Fortune Cookie scent.
