QUICK REVIEW: The colors lean heavily toward cool shimmery tones, but work surprisingly well on tanned skin when used with a light hand.
Bobbi Brown Bobbi’s Eye Wardrobe ($75 USD) will be available exclusively from Travel Retailing worldwide from June 2012. It is also availabe under the name Bobbi’s Pretty Eye Wardrobe through QVC for those of you who won’t be at a travel retail location any time soon.
Bobbi’s Eye Wardrobe is stocked with four light and shimmery cool tones ranging from a pale blue to a slightly opalescent gray, a standard matte white and Black Cocoa Metallic Eye Shadow which is a slightly shimmery deep brown/black. Since its Summer (date of this post), I am significantly more tan that usual, so I did not think this palette would work well with my skin tone. I normally steer away from frosty silver based colors, but I was surprised how pretty these colors translated onto my eyes.
the BRUSHES: Generally when applicators are included with a palette, I consider them throw aways or “Use In Case of Emergency” only. The four brushes included in Bobbi’s Eye Wardrobe: Mini Eye Shadow Brush, Mini Angle Eye Shadow Brush, Mini Smudge Brush and Mini Eye Liner Brush – are literally slightly smaller versions of their professional sized counterparts. The fullness and softness of the eye shadow brushes make them easy to use and enable you to create a complete look on the go.
the DOWNSIDE: The only major issue I had with this palette was with the packaging. While ingenious, the compartment that held the brushes isn’t secure – so the brushes often came loose and fell out when I opened the palette. This was easily remedied by opening the palette upside down, but it would have been great if the lid was secured by a latch of some sort.
It also would have been nice to see a matte mid-toned brown like Bobbi Brown Taupe Eye Shadow to shade brows and add a little contouring.
White Shadow on the brow bone, Opal (my favorite) on the lid, Black Cocoa (wet) as liner and used dry to smoke, Lavender Metallic blended on lower lash line and outer corner. I did use a tiny touch of Bobbi Brown Camel (discontinued – to my dismay) in the crease to balance the cool tones.
Star Sparkle Eye Shadow can also be used as a “top coat” over any eye look to add a subtle shimmer. Black Cocoa can also be used to create a more dramatic smokey look – then softened by blending in Iced Blue, Opal or Lavender.
Bobbi’s Eye Wardrobe ($75) has become a welcome addition to my eye shadow catalog. Since they were tones that I normally don’t lean toward, it was fun to play with “new” color combinations and I was quite pleased with the outcome. Bobbi’s Eye Wardrobe is also the perfect palette to keep in your makeup bag to add a bit of sparkle and drama to your typical day look for nights on the town.
