QUICK REVIEW: With a high SPF 35 (PA+++) and true skin tone shades, Bobbi Brown BB Cream lasted well through a typical day with just a touch of oily breakthrough and minimal irritation (I’m allergic to chemical sunscreen).
Leave it to Bobbi Brown to create one of the most reliable BB Creams on the market. Bobbi Brown BB Cream SPF 35 (or Bobbi’s Ultimate Beauty Balm) is a remarkable skincare/makeup hybrid that delivers skin tone friendly results in a formulation that feels as natural as it looks.
The biggest edge that Bobbi Brown BB Cream has over its competition (which is about every major brand available) are the skin tone correct shades that were formulated by the cosmetic guru herself. Each shade has a distinctive yellow undertone (even the palest shade) which not only blends seamlessly into most skin tones (most people have some degree of yellow undertones to their skin) – but also can add a touch of flattering warmth.
DURABILITY. Bobbi Brown BB Cream leans heavily toward a tinted moisturizer in terms of texture and wear – but is beefed up with a bit more coverage. While it easily wore through half a day (about 4 hours) the smoothing and evening effects began to fade. Setting BB Cream with a translucent powder made it last longer, but sacrificed the “glow”. Personally, wearing this with a bit of powder foundation (like Bobbi Brown Illuminating Finish Powder Compact Foundation SPF 12 or Jane Iredale PurePressed Base) lightly applied to areas of concern with a puff, added a touch more coverage and made for the longest lasting base.
With dozens upon dozens of BB Cream options to choose from, Bobbi Brown BB Cream SPF 35 positions itself as one of the best with its natural, skin tone correct colors, high SPF, lasting moisture and perfecting finish.
Skin is instantly more even toned with a skin-like finish. Covers minor imperfections but does not conceal dark spots or very red blemishes. Works best when set with light powder or powder foundation vs. as a primer for liquid foundation.
(L-R): Before, After with Bobbi Brown BB Cream in Medium (and nothing else).
YOUR RIGHT COLOR MATCH: In order to prevent skin from appearing too sallow, its important to choose the right shade. I use Bobbi Brown Natural Tan (4.25) and Bobbi Brown BB Cream in Medium is my closest match.
SHADES:
Alabaster (00) – Warm Ivory (1) : Extra Light
Sand (2) – Warm Beige (3.5) : Light (shown) or Fair
Natural (4) – Golden (6) : Medium (shown)
Warm Almond (6.5) – Espresso (10) : Medium to Dark
APPLICATION: While a sponge expedites application, Bobbi Brown BB Cream absorbs/dries quite quickly so quite a bit of product is wasted. I find that applying a thin layer to a small section of the face with fingertips is the best application. Since BB Creams tend to have less pigment, applying them with a foundation brush to larger areas of the face with quick sweeps is also an option.
This image may appear a bit darker and yellow toned than the actual shade. It’s best to see the product in person on go by the shade recommendations above.
As of 07/15/2012, this product has a 4.2/5 rating and 80% of reviewers would buy this product again. This is one of my go-to sites for reviews – although what you read should be taken with a grain of salt since it is an open forum of reviews.
HOPE IN A BLOG: This blogger does an in-depth comparison of Bobbi Brown BB Cream and Vidi Vici Brilliant BB Cream. Impressive review which also includes oil tests, adherence tests and multiple views (flash, natural light, yellow light). The actual blog is a bit difficult to navigate – but this entry is worth a look.
