FEATURED PRODUCT. “Bobbi’s inspiration for this season started with a black motorcycle jacket and a piece of delicate pink satin. Seeing the two items together prompted her to create the Caviar & Oyster Palette, featuring shades of shimmering pink, rich caviar and pearlescent silver. Offering eight shadows and a sheer highlighter, this beautifully edited palette combines different textures and finishes to create a multitude of party and special occasion looks.”
the REVIEW: Limited Edition Bobbi’s Caviar & Oyster Palette combines the right mix of shimmer, matte and drama to create just about any look from day to night. While (shockingly) my favorite shades in the palette are Grey Sky and Heather Grey for sculpting a dreamy eye – I am quite taken by the Ballet Sparkle highlighter that will likely never touch my cheekbones (too much glitter) but easily adds instant glamor to any eye look.
I will say that I do not find Bobbi’s shadows to be particularly pigmented. Yet what may seem like a lack of color payoff simply translates to the ability to layer textures, colors and intensities without colors getting muddied in the mix. The colors are more translucent and rarely come off as ashy or chalky.
Bobbi Brown Caviar & Oyster Palette is a must-have for holiday and the soft yet bold statement shades can easily be worn with work attire, special occasion dresses/gowns or built to enhance a more rock and roll glamor.
TIPS: Mix a little Ballet Sparkle with your Bobbi Beach Body Lotion to stretch the last of your Summer tan. Create a stark, sculpted, retro eye with White Eye Shadow on the lid, Grey Sky in the crease and create a cat eye with Rich Caviar wet as liner. These shades also compliment Fall’s Desert Twilight collection and can easily be used together.
(L-R): Shadows Left (clockwise) – White Eye Shadow, Sandy Pearl Sparkle Eye Shadow, Grey Sky Eye Shadow. Shadows Right (clockwise) – Plum Steel Metallic Eye Shadow, Pearl Oyster Sparkle Eye Shadow, Rich Caviar Eye Shadow, Heather Grey Eye Shadow. Ballet Sparkle.
Limited Edition. After several seasons of crazy colors and over-the-top nail embellishments, Bobbi’s Shimmer Nail Polish in Black Pearl is a welcome reprieve. Black Pearl (no relation to the pirate ship) is an opaque shimmery black that only hints at gunmetal grey – but is soft enough to avoid looking overly gothic.
I am obsessed with Bobbi’s Lip Glosses. The first gloss Bobbi released was White, which is now a Brightening Lip Gloss – and part of the Caviar and Oyster Collection. Brightening Lip Gloss in White ($23 – pictured bottom) is a translucent milky white that gives lips a smoother, flawless appearance. Pink Oyster Lip Gloss ($23 – pictured center) has a slightly pink high shimmer finish that is the equivalent of Ballet Sparkle for the lips. The Caviar and Oyster Collection also features a Black Pearl Lip Gloss (not pictured) that can mute deeper reds and berry tones – or wear Brightening Lip Gloss in Moonlight Pearl ($23 – pictured top) for a similar effect. This shade can also be mixed with Pink Oyster for a dimensional lip that compliments the Caviar and Oyster Palette nicely. (Other shades: High Shimmer Lip Gloss in Oyster).
the REVIEW: NEW! from Bobbi Brown, Kohl Cake Liner in Black makes “tight lining” and creating a rich black smokey eye possible with one product. The versatile eye lining powder can be used wet for a smooth, long lasting stark black line (mix with La Femme Cake Eye Liner Sealer, $3.50, makeupmania.com) or dry to soften hard lines and to create a smokey eye.
The unique texture of this powdered kohl delivers good color payoff and smooth application regardless of technique. With normal wear, Kohl Cake Liner lasts a minimum of 8 hours without fading. I did encounter a little smudging, but not any more than with other long lasting liners.
HOW IT COMPARES: The color of Kohl Cake Liner is a little lighter than the Laura Mercier Tightline Cake Eye Liner in Black Ebony ($22) but can be used dry (Laura’s can’t). For the record, I did learn the tightline technique when I worked at a Laura Mercier counter – and do prefer the richer black color. The Givenchy L’Ombre Noire ($57, sephora.com) is ridiculously priced and did not have good color payoff when I tested it dry at Sephora.
TIP: By creating a “tight line” or filling in all the spaces between the upper lashes by pressing liner into the lash line – defines eyes without having to use a heavy liner and gives the illusion of having thicker, fuller lashes. Just be sure when using wet, product isn’t too fluid or too thick – work a small drop of sealer into a small section of product (don’t swirl over the whole cake) till product forms a fluid paste. Use a small amount to carefully press under lash line.
