❤ QUICK REVIEW:Creamy texture, brightening ingredients (arbutin), reliable coverage and skin correct shades (for tan skin tones) made Etude House Precious Mineral Bright Fit BB Cream an easy favorite.
BB Creams have become so popular that nearly every cosmetic company has scrambled to jump on to the BB band wagon. Few have even stooped to simple repackaging (yes, I’m looking at you Cover Girl) or skipped the BB and jumped to CC – which ironically Chanel, with their signature double C logo, has done. While what makes a product a BB Cream still remains to be defined – it has spurned companies to provide wonderful multi-functional cosmetics that have only enriched our morning routines.
That said, while there are few exceptions (Read Omorovicza Complexion Perfector BB review), the Asian market – Korea in particular – still remains the leader in providing the best BB Creams. The only problem I found was the limited color choices of Asian BB Creams (normally 2 shades, Light Beige and Natural Beige) leave my warm medium/tan skin looking ashy. Most Asian women covet a fair complexion and diligently avoid the sun – which logically explains the lack of color choices.
Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream (Bright Fit) SPF 30/PA++ is a traditional Asian BB Cream that provides natural looking medium coverage, brightening properties and is available in four shades from light beige (which is more of a ivory beige) to sand beige (medium/tan beige). I tested Honey Beige, which is a light/medium warm beige. Precious Mineral BB has a substantially warmer undertone which suited my slightly tanned skin better than most BB Creams (see swatches of Precious Minerals vs. Dr. Jart+ Black Label Detox BB Cream). Precious Minerals has a mild sweet/floral perfume scent – like most Asian cosmetics, but did not bother me or irritate my skin.
Aside from the color, which was a spot on match, Precious Mineral BB Cream provided enough coverage to hide most minor imperfections without adding and unnatural opaque layer to the skin. The semi-matte finish still had a bit of dewiness to it, which made skin look fresh, not greasy. It did not control oil, but it certainly didn’t make it worse or cause any breakouts.
I was very impressed by how well it wore throughout a normal Hawaii day, which is fairly warm and humid. After setting it with a light application of Jane Iredale PurePressed Powder in Golden Glow, I only needed to use a few blotting papers during the day to keep my makeup intact. I also didn’t experience any normal irritation that usually occurs when I use a sunscreen product. For these reasons, Precious Minerals BB Cream has become one of my favorites.
(L-R): Before – bare skin, artificial light. After – application of Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream (Bright Fit) in Honey Beige.
While brands like Smashbox and Too Faced have released BB Creams with more than the standard two shades, Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream (Bright Fit) SPF 30/PA++ provides a more traditional formulation that gives a bit more coverage than drug store BB Creams, brightening ingredients at a price well under $30 – not to mention more than 2 oz. of product. If you haven’t tried BB Cream before, this is an excellent choice to start with and if you are a BB Cream aficionado, Precious Mineral BB Cream is definitely one you need add to your collection.
