QUICK REVIEW: As a long-time cleansing oil user, I rejoiced in the elevated experience and rich texture of Tatcha Pure. It effectively removes even heavy makeup (although an additional application was needed for heavy eye makeup) and leaves skin ready for the Tatcha Polished Rice Enzyme Powder or foaming cleanser.LOVELY HEADER 3

COSMETIC PRODUCT REVIEWSAside from their controversial history, Geisha of Japan have been synonymous with flawless, porcelain skin (mochi hada which refers to the quality of a baby’s skin) and revered beauty.  Tatcha has thoughtfully recreated the simple ritual that offers modern day women the gift of pure, polished, radiant and supple skin.

Step One in the Tatcha Ritual, Pure | One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil is a rich, oil based non-foaming cleanser that effectively breaks down excess facial oil, makeup and waterproof products (including sunscreen, eye makeup and BB Cream). It has a mild floral scent and can be used successfully around the eye and mouth area without irritation. The most important detail to remember is to use it with DRY face and DRY hands – otherwise it will not work. The oil is emulsified with water and rinses away.

HADASEI-3Each formula contains Tatcha’s HADASEI-3 Bioactive Complex which consists of Red Algae (enhances skin’s barrier function), Rice Bran (anti-oxidant/moisturizer – considered hypoallergenic) and Green Tea (antioxidant).

Camellia Oil (or tsubaki) is used in Eastern beauty preparations to moisturize skin and hair. The rich golden oil is high in oleic acid (more than olive oil), vitamins and minerals. It does not clog pores, has calming properties and smooths dry, rough skin. Safe for use around the eye area (avoid direct contact with eyes) and mouth area – Camellia Oil may soften fine lines in these areas.

RESULTSUsing a cleansing oil nightly is one of the most important steps in purifying the skin and insures that all toxins and makeup are removed effectively prior to cleansing. This ritual was originally made popular in the US by Shu Uemura. It was difficult to convince clients to add this to their routines, but once they became adapted to the “new” concept – they were hooked. Personally, I do not feel clean if I do not remove my makeup with a cleansing oil prior to my PM routine. While it is a little pricey for the amount you receive, just two full pumps are required to remove even heavy makeup. Heavy foundation and waterproof face makeup was effectively removed – although tough waterproof mascara and eye liner required an additional application or separate eye makeup remover. For those with oily skin, this is a particularly useful step to breakdown blackheads and clogged pores – oil breaks down oil. This did not cause any breakouts when used properly.

TIP: Be sure to massage into skin for about 1 minute. This allows all excess oils and makeup to be broken down and rinsed away. Emulsify with a little warm water and massage into skin prior to rinsing. Be sure to use lots of warm water (about 15 splashes or 20 seconds in the shower) to remove oil. If you have normal to combination skin or require additional cleansing, follow with Tatcha Polished Rice Enzyme Powders for extra exfoliation or your favorite cleanser.

THE FINAL ROARI just ran out of my 2nd bottle of Tatcha Pure | One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil and its the first thing on my Post-Holiday shopping list (kids first!). It is one of the few products I’ve used up and repurchased – so that alone is a testament to its effectiveness.

COSMETIC DUPE LIST To save money, I use Softymo Deep Cleansing Oil ($12.99, webichi.com) which is an excellent product – but it is not as cushiony and rich as the Tatcha. Still, if the $48 is out of your price range, a cleansing oil is still a necessary step to add to your routine for the best cleansing results.
