QUICK REVIEW: This uniquely textured micro-derm paste leaves skin (literally) like baby skin. Amazing.COSMETIC REVIEWS

COSMETIC PRODUCT REVIEWSThe first experience I had with a physical facial scrub was St. Ives Apricot Scrub (about $5, drugstores) when I was about 16 years old and had well, 16 year old skin. The creamy scrub left my oily (but thankfully acne free) skin smoother – if not a little raw from over scrubbing. Flash forward 24 years (really?) and the idea of using ground walnuts on my face leaves me literally – red faced. During the 24 years since my first experience I’ve tried a myriad of scrubs and have often been left – red faced.

In my opinion, proper and regular exfoliation is one of the keys to healthy skin. It removes dulling dead skin, allows products to penetrate better and gives skin a glow that is lost as we age. Over exfoliation, however, can cause skin to become thin, raw and irritated. I’ve been most successful with at-home peel products, but when Jan (an Independent Consultant for Rodan + Fields) wanted my opinion about some of the R+F products – I was happy to give it a shot.

RODAN + FIELDS ENHANCEMENTS MICRO-DERMABRASION PASTE ($77, janbenrajab.myrandf.com) has a fine sugar/salt exfoliant mixed in a high-glide oil-free balm – much like a slightly thinner, water-soluble Vaseline. As a fan of cleansing oils and balms – the heavier base cushioned the sugar/salt scrub and felt comforting on the skin and moved well over both dry skin (recommended) and slightly damp skin (less abrasive – the sugar/salt starts to melt). The paste rinsed off easily, but leaves a slightly uncomfortable film on the skin which is easily removed with a regular facial cleanser.

The end result is amazing baby-soft skin that glows. Foundation glided on and stayed smooth looking all day, skin care treatments absorbed faster and results lasted for about a week. It didn’t cause my skin to become sensitive or reactive and there was no signs of over exfoliation. Love!

WHEN TO USE MICRO-DERMABRASION PASTE: I prefer to use heavier duty scrubs at night which allows skin to “settle” and truthfully, the idea of putting makeup over freshly scrubbed skin is tactility unappealing. Remove eye makeup first, use Micro-Dermabrasion Paste as directed, cleanse with your regular face wash.

THE FINAL ROARRodan + Fields Enhancements Micro-Dermabrasion Paste is the best in its class because of its balm texture, sugar/salt exfoliant and results. This is recommended especially if you are using other chemical exfoliators (acids, enzymes, retinol, etc.) and use should be limited to 1-2x per week at most. A facial scrub is the easiest way to “get glowing” with immediate results and this product allows for varied application techniques for different needs (wet or dry application), balm texture for extra comfort and consistently reliable results that even impressed a non-scrub user like. me. This will be a staple in my routine.
