THE BRIDAL SURVIVAL KIT

BRIDAL SURVIVAL KIT - HEADER 2

JENN-WEDDINGThere’s nothing special about the potential of red noses, greasy faces, blood-shot eyes, smudged mascara, funky hair or any beauty mishap on your special day. Not getting married? These anti-loveliness symptoms can happen at an important (or routine) meeting, coffee hour or your kid’s first piano recital. Be prepared! The necessities (marked with a ♥) all fit in a little pouch (have your maid of honor be in charge of it) and will fix most mishaps in 30 seconds.

My Wedding Day: I wore plum brown eye makeup, nude lips, Shu Uemura mink lashes, a $100 black floral dress from Bluefly, Swarvoski jewelry and carried a bouquet of plum calla lilies. My wonderful friends had set up a lovely area outside – but we quickly moved indoors since it started raining. I cried. He cried. Everyone laughed and had a great time. It was a magnificent day.

ANTI-LOVELY SYMPTOM #1: GREASY FACES

THE BRIDAL SURVIVAL KIT - ANTI-SHINE

There’s a fine line between glowing and greasy. ♥TATCHA ABURATORIGAMI ($12, tatcha.com) and ♥NARS LIGHT REFLECTING PRESSED POWDER ($34, narscosmetics.com) will eliminate unwanted shine without leaving behind a dry, overly matte look. Use the delicate, gold flecked Tatcha Aburatorigami face paper to remove excess oils. Be sure to PRESS onto oily areas and change paper if necessary. Follow with a light application of the NARS powder – using the included puff (the powder comes with a really lovely pouch that also holds the puff). The powder is ultra fine and doesn’t look cakey or dry – no matter how many times you apply.

BIG DAY TIP: Whenever you retouch your makeup – don’t rub. Since most foundations are long-wearing – rubbing might cause it to clump and cake (eww). Lightly PRESS papers and pressed powders onto skin for minimal disruption. Oh, and don’t forget to pat pat pat your groom too – nobody looks good when they’re greasy.

ANTI-LOVELY SYMPTOM #2: SMUDGED OR DISAPPEARING EYE MAKEUP

BOBBI BROWN JET SETTER LONG WEAR EYE COLLECTIONPut your eye makeup on lock down with BOBBI BROWN JET SETTER LONG-WEAR EYE COLLECTION ($48, bobbibrowncosmetics.com). Prevent smears and smudges before the tears begin. One of the prettiest bridal looks is a soft, slightly smokey eye. Apply Long-Wear Eye Pencil in Jet very lightly along the lash line. Use the Long-Wear Cream Shadow in Smokey Topaz with a small brush to blend into the liner – smoke it out slightly. Curl your lashes, apply several coats of ♥Intensifying Long-Wear Mascara to top and bottom lashes. Substitute the Eye Pencil with Bobbi’s Long-Wear Gel Liner for maximum wear. The Instant Long-Wear Makeup Remover makes taking it all off – a breeze.

BIG DAY TIP: Whether you choose to hire a makeup artist or choose to do your own – keep in mind that professional photography washes out about 40-60% of your makeup depending on lighting. Do several trial runs with different looks, in different lighting. Take lots of test shots and PRINT your favorites. You should be able to find a look that translates well in photos and in person.

ANTI-LOVELY SYMPTOM #3: HAIR WOES

THE BRIDAL SURVIVAL KIT - HAIR WOESAgain, prevention is key. LIVING PROOF. PRIME STYLE EXTENDER (2oz. Travel Size for $12, sephora.com) not only cuts down on drying time, but weatherproofs hair for long lasting hair styles. LIVING PROOF. AMP2 INSTANT TEXTURE VOLUMIZER ($24, sephora.com) gives body and texture to limp, hard to manage hair. This works great for giving updos staying power without making hair stiff.

If your hair style starts to flatten – or you just need to freshen between shampoos, ♥SERGE NORMANT TRAVEL SIZE META REVIVE DRY SHAMPOO ($15, birchbox.com) instantly revives oily, limp locks. Or use to give hair incredible body.

BIG DAY TIP: Simplify your day by hiring a good hair stylist that is willing to work on-site. A professional stylist will normally include a trial-run prior to the big day – be sure to give it a good test run. You might feel silly in an up-do at the grocery store – but its better than it falling flat on the day of your wedding. Be honest with your stylist if your don’t like the look (Too big? Too small? Too boring? Too much?) – they want you to be happy.

ANTI-LOVELY MULTI-TASKING FIXERS

ESTEE LAUDER IDEAL LIGHT CONCEALER

ESTEE LAUDER IDEAL LIGHT BRUSH-ON ILLUMINATOR ($26.50, esteelauder.com). Ideal Light  is the ultimate fixer-upper. Use it to blur uneven lip lines prior to applying lip color or use it to clean up smudges. Gently pat under eyes to perk up dry lines. A quick swipe over smudged liner or mascara (wipe away with ♥cotton swab) erases any smears. Use around nose area if things start to get a bit red. The semi-matte, slightly glowing finish blends impeccably over powder and foundation without looking artificial or dry.

THE BRIDAL SURVIVAL KIT - MULTI TASKING PRODUCTS

OMOROVICZA PERFECTING LIP BALM ($45, omorovicza.com). This amazing balm not only gives lips a natural looking glow – but can be layered over fading lip color to perk things up, on cheek bones to add a slight sheen, to tame brows, on dry cuticles or even on flyaway hairs. Its remarkable non-sticky texture and very slight neutral scent make it perfect for the groom as well.

HERBAN ESSENTIALS TOWELETTES IN LAVENDER ($16, herbanessentials.com). Keep a bunch of these on hand to freshen hands, bodies and under arm pitties. Maybe even to clean off wedding cake. The pure essential oil is not only calming – but is naturally antibacterial and antiseptic.  I actually use these in Lemon for my kids on a regular basis.

♥ALTOIDS SMALLS (About $2.50, drugstores) or COLGATE WISP PORTABLE MINI-BRUSH TOOTHBRUSH ($8.50, drugstores). They aren’t really multi-taskers – but everyone in the wedding party might benefit from these mini breath fresheners.
