QUICK REVIEW: This jello like primer literally floods skin with water-like moisture. Its effect delivers the opposite of its silicone-filled sisters – giving skin a fresh, dewy, glowing look.
ILLAMASQUA HYDRA VEIL REHYDRATING GEL is an interesting hybrid skin care and makeup product. It looks (literally) like clear jello, does not have a strong scent and when applied – feels like a dose of cool water on the skin. Since the weather is quite warm and my skin is feeling a bit more oily lately, the sensation is both welcoming and a surprise.
APPLICATION TIPS: I can see how there is a bit of fumbling with the application of this strangely textured product. The easiest and most sanitary application is to scoop out a small amount with the attached spatula, place the product in your palm and then use your clean fingers (my choice) or brush (brand recommendation) to your entire face over your skin care and before your foundation.
Keeping in mind that this does nothing for pores (and does not claim to) – this purely addresses those with dehydrated, uneven textured skin and provides a smooth, glowing surface that feels fresh and light. Oily skins may find satisfaction using it as a moisturizing/primer step, while drier skin can use it after serums and creams. Hydra Veil absorbs quickly and does not leave a sticky residue.
Hydra Veil instantly erases any dry patches, uneven texture and slightly plumps fine lines. The hydration provides a glow to the skin and is effective on dull, lackluster skin. Since using Hydra Veil, I do not find the need to overuse foundation or powder since it beautifies the skin without coverage – in fact it seems like a shame to cover the lovely dewiness! Foundation (both liquid and powder) applies smoothly over Hydra Veil with no piling or clumping. Makeup lasted at least 10 hours and still looked fresh – not greasy. I can’t say much about oil control, but while my skin did not stay matte, it was not overly oil either.
My only recommendation would be for this product to address pores, since most customers have that issue. However, as a hydrating primer for combination/dry skin, this can’t get any better. It delivers dewy – but fresh feeling skin and longer lasting makeup…who can argue with that?
Create a radiant finish with Hydra Veil’s instantly rehydrating gel formula. It provides the optimal base for your make-up. Apply before foundation with an Illamasqua Brush. (Product Packaging)
