The world’s 1st launch! With this makeup base, all you need is warm water to remove makeup on it. Apply in the morning, stay beautiful throughout the day. Was off with warm water at night. Makeup Base? Cleansing? Both!
LAUNCH: March 2013
PRODUCT RATING: ★★★★★★★★★☆ (9/10)
PRICE DETAILS: Approx. $16-$20 USD for 1.2oz. | Cost about $10 in Japan
PRESENTATION: Plastic tube
KEY FEATURES: Veil Action Polymer*4, a substance that is hydrophobic to cold water but hydrophilic to warm water – when blended with warm water it works to detach the Fullmake Washable Base from the skin, allowing the foundation and base to be washed off easily. Also containing hyaluronic acid, the product spreads smoothly and comfortably on the skin, hydrating it and offering protection from dryness. (Source: Shiseido Product Release)
QUICK REVIEW: Incredibly, this makeup base actually does facilitate a faster cleansing routine! The fact that it makes a lovely primer and makes makeup last all day makes this a must try!
Shiseido Fullmake Washable Base is an import from Japan and not part of the department store Shiseido line. It has a creamy, moisturizer-like texture and faint scent and immediately gives skin a smoother look and feel. After applying 2 pearl sized drops and allowing it to dry – foundation and other cosmetics (including eye makeup) go on like a dream. Pores and oily breakthrough are minimized without drying out skin or accentuating dry patches on my combination skin.
Its a great makeup base – but does it help remove makeup without using a cleansing oil or makeup remover? Amazingly – yes! A facial wash is still needed to cleanse the skin – but it does a fabulous job at breaking down makeup with the use of warm water (yes – water). If you wear very heavy makeup or waterproof mascara – it won’t remove everything, but it does make removal a lot less involved. There was also no breakouts or irritation. FWB also doesn’t have sunscreen – but for me, that’s a plus.
While the effect and removal are great – the product does leave a slight residue on the skin after the warm water technique. However, once you use your face wash your face is left immaculately clean. A waterproof eye makeup remover was also needed for heavier makeup, which defeated the purpose of minimizing the steps.
EXPERIMENT: I drew a stripe of long-wear eye liner (Urban Decay 24/7 in Perversion) on both my hands – one with FWB and one without. Using only warm water – the side with FWB was completely removed! The other side without FWB didn’t budge.
L-R: Fullmake Washable Base swatch, Hand with FWB after removing eyeliner with only warm water, hand without FWB after attempting removal with warm water, hand without FWB after attempting removal with facial cleanser, gauze pad and a bit of scrubbing.
Without a doubt – Shiseido Fullmake Washable Base is one of the coolest beauty breakthroughs I’ve seen in a long time. As a stand alone primer – it works wonderfully with great results (glowing, long lasting makeup with minimal oily breakthrough) and really does help facilitate a less complicated skin care routine.
(This is a product intro video from Diginfonews – and in Asia, they use men for cosmetic advertising. That is not me. LOL!)
