DRUNK ELEPHANT

Drunk Elephant Pekee Bar | Review & Results

A gentle, multi-tasking bar that will effectively remove makeup and impurities without stripping the skin of natural oils.

DRUNK ELEPHANT PEEKE BARCM AWARD WINNER 2013

PRODUCT RATING: ★★★★★★★★★★ (10/10)

PRICE DETAILS: $32 for 1½” x 1½” x 1″ of JuJu Bar and Pekee Bar $$

**Individual large sizes available for $32

PRESENTATION: White soap with elephant marking

TEXTURE & SCENT: Cushioning, creamy lather with no scent.

SKIN TYPE: All Skin Types. Even sensitive and acne.

KEY FEATURES: The Pekee Bar™ clarifies, balances and moisturizes, while rinsing away pore-clogging surface debris, impurities, and excess oil. Infused with a powerful blend of blueberry extract, marula oil and honey, the Pekee Bar™ tones and promotes moisture retention, elasticity, and firmness. Soothing aloe vera, hydrating sea plant extract and brightening licorice extract help to put this bar in a league of its own. The Pekee Bar™ is totally fragrance, dye and detergent free and formulated with skin-friendly ingredients designed to calm and feed the skin.

QUICK REVIEW: The PM sister to the incredible JUJU BAR, PEEKE BAR effectively removes makeup (even non-waterproof eye makeup) with zero irritation, no dryness and is completely void of fragrance. Is it worth $32? If you care about how your skin looks and what you’re putting on it – YES.

QUICK REVIEW - CARD BOTTOM

**This review will look close to the JUJU BAR post. I love each bar equally and they work extremely well as an AM/PM team.

THE REVIEW the BACK STORY – Let me start this review with how I discovered this brand new (and amazing) underground line. Anyone remember WONDERBAR? Probably not. I discovered it on Hautelook, did a little research, bought a few and really ended up liking it (didn’t review it since I also found out it was being discontinued). In spite of its limited availability (bars are still available on Amazon – but read on before you jump ship) – I continued to scour the web and eBay for deals and information about this elusive bar. During this journey – I discovered that Tiffany Masterson (of Wonderbar fame) was working on a new project – DRUNK ELEPHANT SKIN CARE.

Drunk Elephant Difference:

Unlike other bar cleansers on the market, JuJu Bar™ is made using the old fashioned “melt and pour” method, is pH neutral and contains 20% glycerine. Drunk Elephant formulations only contain ingredients that are there to benefit skin health and support the formulation, keeping them safe and making them ideal for even the most sensitive skin. You will never find colorants or fragrances of any kind in our products. That is our commitment to you. (Source: Drunk Elephant)

PEKEE BAR™ is a ultra-gentle foaming bar “soap” that easily removes light makeup and leaves skin soft – without the drying effects of traditional soaps or detergent based facial cleansers. The pure white bar foams up quickly – creating an almost creamy lather that is so gentle, it doesn’t irritate the eyes (I actually applied it with my eyes open to test this) and even sensitive skin will appreciate the absence of any fragrance (natural or synthetic).

As a makeup remover – it works surprisingly well on light makeup. An eye makeup remover is still recommended if you wear waterproof or long wearing products (a tiny dab of the Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil works as a pre-cleanser). If you wear heavy makeup and/or foundation – I would recommend using a remover or cleansing oil prior to washing.

Marula FruitThe ingredients include Drunk Elephant’s signature Marula oil (pictured left), MariMoist® (see ingredients below for properties), Blueberry, Aloe Vera and Honey. Skin is left makeup free, fresh and smooth. Its also formulated WITHOUT a long list of undesirables like -cones, mineral oil, parabens, resorcinol, triclosan, formaldehyde, chemical sunscreens and much more (see ingredient information below for complete list of “withouts”).

DRUNK ELEPHANT PM ROUTINEFYI – Since I liked this product so much, I was extra diligent on my research. Every ingredient I didn’t recognize – I looked up. See the results in the INGREDIENT SECTION below.

DRUNK ELEPHANT SKIN CARE PM ROUTINE: Remove makeup, exfoliate and nourish. Start by cleansing with Pekee Bar, follow with TLC Framboos Glycolic Night Serum and finish by patting Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil on your dry spots. Wake to amazing, calm, lovely skin.

THE FINAL ROARDRUNK ELEPHANT SKIN CARE PEEKE BAR may look like a dressier version of Ivory Soap – but make no mistake. This unassuming white bar easily takes the place of your makeup remover, cleanser and toner, leaving skin feeling soft and fresh. What amazed me was not feeling the need to douse my skin with moisturizer after cleansing! $32 may seem steep for such a cute little bar – but it will last about 4-5 months or more with PM only use. A must-have for sensitive skin and a wonderful first time cleanser for pre-teens.

  1. Hi Jenn,

Do you experience any breakout (small clogged pores) when you first started using the soap? I noticed some small bumps on my face after using the soap for 3 days and by the 10th day, I had 10 spots (not large acne, more like clogged pores) across my face.

I purchase both the Pekee and Juju Bar.

    1. I’ve been monumentally more successful with the Juju Bar since it has a clay base. I use the Pekee at night when I don’t have any makeup on. If you use makeup, be sure you remove it with an makeup remover before washing. One of the most common mistakes is assuming that cleansers all remove makeup. A 2 step removal/wash process is the best – particularly if you’re noticing clogged pores. Hope that helps.

  2. Awesome review! I have been researching Drunk Elephant and plan on picking up some products today! I suffer with oily/acne prone skin, so hopefully it will be beneficial. Thanks for being so thorough!
