Boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge | Review & Dupe List

BOSCIA KONJAC CLEANSING SPONGEKonjac is a pure vegetable fiber made from the Japanese plant/root Konnyaku (こんにゃく) also known in Korea as Gonyak. Its been used in Asia for its health properties for over 1500 years. These 100% natural, purified sponges have a unique gel-like fiber texture that exfoliates, removes impurities and its natural alkalinity helps to balance acidity. My husband also eats it (the edible version) with shoyu and rice.

BOSCIA KONJAC CLEANSING SPONGE is the first I’ve seen for the US market. Similar products are available – most sourced from Asia or Europe. At $18 – Boscia’s price is unjustifiable, since the product is made from only pure Konjac. I’ve actually been using the charcoal version from THE FACE SHOP for a while now – so I knew there was a less pricey option out there.

THE FACE SHOP KONJAC CLEANSING SPONGE

THE REVIEWKonjac sponges in general are an excellent and affordable way to get a deeper clean without over stimulating the skin. For those who cannot tolerate using a cleansing brush or exfoliating scrub on a regular basis (I would still only use it up to 3x a week depending on your skin type and sensitivity) – a konjac sponge will effectively remove dulling dead skin cells, stimulate blood flow and remove all traces of cleanser. Skin is left glowing, clean and clear.

I recommend using it on a makeup free face or after you rinse off your cleanser for the purpose of exfoliation. Over stimulating the skin can lead to dryness and irritation – regardless how gentle a product is.

HOW TO USE A KONJAC SPONGE: Be sure the sponge is completely imbued with water. If its dry or any part of the sponge feels hard or stiff – soak in warm water for 3-5 minutes. If you are wearing makeup, use an adequate remover and/or cleanser first. Rinse. Lightly squeeze excess water from sponge and use gentle, circular strokes over the entire face for about 30-60 seconds. The sponge can be used around the eye area – but be gentle. Rinse skin again. After use, rinse sponge with water and store in well ventilated area.
