When a Lotion Isn’t a Lotion | La Mer The Treatment Lotion Review
When you hear the term “lotion” in regards to cosmetics – most of us automatically think of a fluid moisturizer. In fact, “lotion” (or essence) can also mean a semi-toning step (although its decidedly not a toner) – a mysterious 3rd step preceding moisturizer. The concept has been long used in Asia to essentially flood the skin with moisture – which allows following treatments to be more effective.
Its no secret that La Mer products are some of the most luxurious in the world – and using the substantial original cream means saying au revoir to dry skin. Introducing The Treatment Lotion ($125) into my routine proved no exception to La Mer’s lasting reputation. Truthfully, I almost didn’t want to put anything on top of this smoothing, fluid elixir – skin is instantly calmer, softer and prettier in general.
Do you need another step? After I turned 40, my skin has been significantly more dry and sensitive on top of still being oily with slight breakouts. By pressing this lightweight syrup-like lotion into my skin after cleansing and toning – I no longer felt the need to use heavier creams and my serums absorbed easily and glided over my skin. So while this added an extra minute to my PM routine – the results were well worth it.
: If you start to look dull or dry by mid-afternoon, take a small amount of lotion in your hands and press over sad-looking areas for instantly happier skin. I even use my fingertips to freshen under my eye area.
Other Lotions & Essences: SK-II Facial Treatment Essence ($100-$275), Estee Lauder Nutritious Energy Lotion ($50), Fresh Creme Ancienne Infusion Treatment Toner ($90), The Face Shop Chia Seed Watery Lotion ($25).
