In the culinary world, many exotic and often strange ingredients are considered delicacies. The beauty industry has followed suit with a menu of unusual ingredients ranging from unusual to flat out creepy. How far would you go for flawless skin?
Human placenta and vampire facials are one thing – but earthworm poop? Apparently vermicast, the same stuff that makes plants grow larger and last longer by energizing their stem cells – can have similar effects on human skin. Fresh Beauty Market Wrinkle Butter ($29.95, greensations.com) combines vermicast extract with shea butter, caffeine and green tea. Don’t worry – the poop is sterilized.
Other (ahem) interesting ingredients: King Cobra venom [Venin Royale Concentrated Neuropeptide Renewal Serum $160}, Nightingale droppings [Usuisunokona $29.88] and Snail mucus [Tony Moly Intense Care Snail Ampoule $69.99}.
I’ll be taking a look at some of these (err…) interesting products in the coming weeks. I’ll let you know if they’re full of…you know.

SEPHORA+PANTONE UNIVERSE Venus Lure Lip Balm ($16 | $$) sephora.com| ★★★★★★★★☆☆ (8/10)
A hydrating, sheer lip balm in a tint inspired by the Sephora+Pantone Color of the Year—Radiant Orchid.
So pretty! SEPHORA+PANTONE UNIVERSE Venus Lure Lip Balm celebrates Radiant Orchid in a way even the faintest of hearts can appreciate. The ultra sheer bright pink has a touch of purple and can be worn as a veil of color or layered for more intensity. The glossy finish stays on for about 4 hours and has a slightly minty scent and feel.
I normally tend toward muted nudes, but loved how this perked up my look without being shocking or dated.

The Happiest Place on Earth
According to CNN, the happiest place on earth is Denmark [read]. While our family vacation to Disneyland was a lot less exotic – the experience was filled with countless memories that will last a lifetime.
Although the It’s a Small World attraction was closed (along with the Submarine, which we missed the last time too) – Disneyland never fails to amaze me in both the juvenile and mature. While just being there made me feel like a kid again – part of me was appalled at the crowds and $4 bottles of water. A $10 Turkey Leg later – I got over it and returned to Neverland.
Highlights: The animatronics of the California Adventure’s new Radiator Springs Racers really made you feel like you were in the Cars movie – with a thrilling fast paced “race” at the end. Tip: Go early and get a FASTPASS. My little one LOVED the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique where she got made up in true Princess fashion. In my opinion, I could have done a better job (they use cheap generic gel and makeup) but the experience was truly priceless – and no, her Walmart version of Belle didn’t stand out against the $65 Disneyland version. The BBQ dinner at the Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue is expensive – but a great reprieve from the crowds and great for big appetites.
Here’s 35 Insider Hacks for Taking your Kids to Disneyland (buzzfeed.com). This has a lot of GREAT tips for making the experience more magical. Here’s a few of our own:
1. Hit Grizzly River Run in the California Adventure first thing in the morning. We did that while everyone else was in line for Radiator Springs Racer FASTPASS tickets and rode it 3x in a row.
2. If you have younger kids – A Bug’s Life in California Adventure has a few rides and a fun 4D presentation. Go there at the end of your day or about an hour to closing – it wasn’t crowded and a good time to eat a Churros.
Cutest apples ever. They can be found in several confectioneries around both parks & Downtown.→
3. Don’t forget to see the Aladdin musical. The genie is genius – and even if you’ve seen it before, the jokes change.
4. Have a plan. Familiarize yourself with rides and shows and have a loose plan. The first 2 days we “winged it” and wasted a lot of time. By day 3 – I took charge and with strategic FASTPASS usage, rode everything we wanted. Also – if you can avoid the weekends, do so. You’ll miss some shows – but also the crowds.
5. Rent a locker. Temperatures vary greatly from day to night during certain times of the year. We stored our jackets, extra clothes and other stuff we didn’t want to carry. We went back later in the day to retrieve our jackets and put store purchases, empty water bottles (we used reusable bottles), etc. We also had a stroller to store our water bottles and other non-valuables during rides.
Otherwise, bring your patience, cameras (and portable chargers), healthy snacks and get ready for some fun. It was a fantastic bonding experience and also taught us that HOME is the happiest place on earth.
