As a kid, my Mom always told me its what’s on the inside that counts. Once again, Mom is right. I’m a HUGE advocate of good, solid topical skin care – but nourishing your body from the inside is what’s going to really make you glow. Once in a while (particularly when I’m not feeling my best) I’ll Juice. No, I’m not a manic organic and while I don’t mind Vegan – I also love having a slice & a pint every now and then. I’ve been drinking shakes made from powder (Purium and Green Food) but I’m not getting the same results you can from fresh juice.
← Happiness makes you glow too!
I just picked up Cherie Calborn’s (aka The Juice Lady) Big Book of Juices and Green Smoothies. I realize you can probably look up most of this info online – but I’m old school, I like books for things I really intend on learning. So this month I’ll be taking my health to a new level and juicing a minimum of once a day (hopefully twice) in order to manage my fibromyalgia, weight and to keep the skin glowing.

ESTEE LAUDER MICRO ESSENCE ($95 150ml | $$$) esteelauder.com| ★★★★★★★★★★ (10/10)
A first-ever, groundbreaking essence-in-lotion activates and strengthens skin’s foundation to reveal its youthful, angelic glow.
Estee Lauder Micro Essence Skin Activating Treatment Lotion is a treatment step – not to be mistaken for a toner since it is so much more. As a big fan of SK-II Facial Treatment Essence and La Mer The Treatment Lotion – I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with Micro Essence the way I have.
Nevermind that it’s less expensive per ounce. The texture is spot on – a little richer than the SK-II and a touch less hydrating than the La Mer. Plus, the results equal visibly glowing skin with a refined clarity and beauty. Blemishes healed faster, skin requires less moisturizer (I use it alone when its particularly humid) and sensitivity is minimized.
LA MER Creme de la Mer World Oceans Day Limited Edition ($435, cremedelamer.com). To commemorate World Oceans Day, La Mer’s legendary crème will be available in a limited-edition jar with sea glass-inspired designs from May through June 2014. ESTEE LAUDER Bronze Goddess Powder Bronzer ($36, esteelauder.com). It’s endless summer with this super-luxurious powder bronzer. ❤ COMPTOIR SUD PACIFIQUE Vanille Extreme ($32, sephora.com). Like a soft island breeze, this pure vanilla fragrance evokes a delicate feeling of sensuality. The explosion of delicious notes tempts the palette and touches the heart for a feeling of freedom and passion. This creamy fragrance embodies the warm, sweet aromas of night on an exotic island paradise. This isn’t “NEW” but it is my favorite fragrance (I’ve been wearing this and Vanille Abricot for years) and it gets lots of compliments. They now carry it at sephora.com. YSL ‘5 Color” Couture Palette in 10 Lumieres Majorelle ($60, nordstrom.com). Yves Saint Laurent 5 Color Couture Palette is filled with ready-to-wear eyeshadows with intense color payoff. It allows you to create three signature looks with ease thanks to a range of matte, satin and shimmer shades that glide on smoothly and evenly and blend effortlessly. AVEDA Smooth Infusion Naturally Straight ($26, aveda.com). As you blow-dry your hair, its formula of plant-derived fibers work to create a locking layer, holding your hair straight day after day while forming a barrier against intense humidity to help you forget about frizz. After five consecutive applications, your hair will stay straight for up to three washes.
After my ridiculous Purium Cleanse experiment (I’ve gained all the weight back – even with eating modifications), I’ve decided to take my health OLD SCHOOL. For the last three weeks I’ve been doing T25 (if you’ve stayed up late and seen the infomercials, you know what I’m talking about) and modified my diet. Strangely, I’ve gained a few pounds and my jeans have gotten tighter. But I feel muscle under my fat (LOL) – so I’m sticking to it.
Overall, I really like the workouts. T25 takes about 30 minutes (25 minute workout with 3 minute cool down) and while Shawn T. delivers a killer and sweat producing workout – Tania (the really cute modified “model”) is my best friend. She’s healthy looking, toned but not bone skinny and a Mom. I can’t do some of the moves due to this extra 20 pounds I’m carrying, so I stay focused by doing the modified version of most of the exercises.
While its only been 3 weeks, this is the longest I’ve stuck to an exercise routine. I won’t be posting any before and after pictures any time soon (I didn’t take any before) or doing a lengthy review. This is a lifestyle change – I’m hoping to start running again and will continue to juice and eat cleaner. Still, I’ll be updating you on my progress.
Here’s a yummy looking recipe I got from PerezHilton.com. I’m going to make them and post the results on my Instagram (Cosmetic_Monster). Also search #jennstarrT25 on Facebook.
Every once in a while I get a chance to truly appreciate how beautiful Hawaii really is. I live on Oahu, so finding untouched beauty is very rare (you experience that more on the neighbor islands) – but these photos were taken over the last few months. Capturing some moments when I really felt blessed to live somewhere so amazing.
