Quick Review: The separate black fiber step gives lashes noticeably more length and volume – but requires patience and practice to obtain natural results. Should be used with a light hand, or lashes easily get clumpy and uneven. Smudge resistant, long lasting and easy to remove.
I’m always skeptical about these distributor-type brands – what is the person who’s selling it going to say? It’s junk? Don’t get it? Plus from what I’ve seen on Instagram – the results of YOUNIQUE MOODSTRUCK 3D FIBER LASHES are really exaggerated and very Tammy Faye Bakker (if you’re not sure who this is – Google it). Since I am an arachnophobe when it comes to the look of my lashes (no spiders allowed!) this product didn’t seem like something I would like.
Essentially its very similar to TOO FACED BETTER THAN FALSE LASHES ($35, toofaced.com) [READ REVIEW] which is also a two part mascara with fibers. Both products require a bit of trial and error in getting lashes to look even without clumping – but with a little cheating (see the Too Faced review for tips) the results can be quite impressive.
- Younique uses black fibers – so you don’t get any of the strange “I have cotton on my lashes” look like the Too Faced can since their fibers are white.
- Like the Too Faced, Younique doesn’t smudge during the day and the removal is relatively simple. Any eye makeup remover works well. I use Fresh Soy Face Cleanser in the shower sometimes and it works well at removing Younique.
- If you resist piling it on – the look can be quite natural. To say it looks like false lashes is a HUGE reach – since falsies can add length and increase the volume of lashes without clumping or unnecessary thickening. If you look at someone with naturally thick and gorgeous lashes – do they look like spidery clumps? I think not.
If you don’t have a lot of lashes to start with, Younique (or any other fiber lash) isn’t going to give you the results you are looking for. In fact, it will probably emphasize the fact that you only have 10 lashes. Your best bet is going to be using a mascara that separates and darkens without thickening. Across the board, if it clumps – JUST SAY NO. It’s just my opinion but over done lashes can ruin even the most beautiful eyes.
Don’t be afraid of false lashes. Using Japanese technology, KISS LOOKS SO NATURAL IN SULTRY (About $5 at drugstores) have tapered ends, making them natural looking. They are also easy to apply with a little practice.
When used with a light hand, Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes and other fiber mascaras are a great alternative to false lashes. They are never going to be able to give you the customized and more natural look that falsies can provide and still require practice. Still, they provide length, definition and stay smudge free all day.
