Thankfully I’m not a high-risk candidate and haven’t found anything during breast self-exams, but this disease has affected so many women close to our family and our hearts. OATMEAL#JENN20: My initial attempt to lose weight on my own was a total bust in September. While I didn’t gain any, there was no loss as well. With October looming – stocked to the brim with work events and family responsibilities, carving out time to prep food, exercise and get back on track has been filled with crap excuses.

So I joined Weight Watchers – with the intention on getting to my 20 pound goal in 3 months. The app (available on Android and iPhone) is remarkably easy and I was very happy to find out you can still eat fruits and small amounts of treats. You become a little annoying with the point counting, but I’m sure it will work over time.

This amazing oatmeal is made with  whole grain plain instant oatmeal, toasted pecans, apples, cinnamon and dates. It keeps me full till lunch (I nibble on apple or protein in 2 hours) and has 9 points.


CYMERA_20140929_221518I’ve been doing almost all my illustrations via Illustrator – which keeps things neat and easily controlled. While this is my style, I’ve recently started doing small sketches like this tiny bunny (it’s about an inch and a half high) on -gasp- paper. There’s something familiar and organic about pen and paper.

When I was in high school, I spent a good part of Geometry class filling an entire piece of college ruled folder paper with bunnies. While this didn’t make for the best grades (don’t tell my kids!) its a nice memory and reminder why I’m obsessed with rabbits. The main character from my kid’s brand – Starr Candy – is Starr Bunny, which a co-worker gleefully pointed out, looks like me. LOL!

I’ll be doing more sketches with my new Micron Sepia pens, fascinated at how different my style is compared to a computer illustration! Follow my Starr_Candy Instagram page to see what comes out of this exercise.
