QUICK REVIEW: While there wasn’t any significant visible results on my 44 year old combination skin, I have become reliant on the moisturizers to keep my skin balanced and calm. It is rare that a product gets used to the bottom and the third step in this system is almost gone. That is a testimony to it’s efficacy in itself. A few product tweaks and a total R+F regimen can take your skin to the next level.

Rodan and Fields Redefine before and after

Since I already take (obsessively) good care of my skin, there wasn’t a whole lot of WOW in the 2 month after photos. My WOW are factors that can’t be seen in photos. After sticking to the routine for two months (except for the cleanser), my skin was continuously calm and balanced. There were very little dry spells and I’ve been wearing very little foundation.

★★★★★★☆☆ (6/10)

I really wish they would change the cleanser in this system. It’s not that the cleansing mask concept is bad – but it’s definitely not something I want to deal with on a daily basis. IMO, this step should be able to remove light makeup and leave skin feeling clean. For it’s intended purpose, this product falls short.

The Cleansing Mask does have a pleasant scent and leaves skin feeling soft. Regular exfoliating is a VERY important step in any skin care routine, but the R+F Enhancements Microdermabrasion Paste ($80) is a better option and far more effective. Spend the extra $$ for this upgrade.

Truth is, you can get away with a less expensive cleanser of your choice here.

★★★★★★★ (7/10)

While the purpose of this toner is understood, it did not yield enough pore minimizing results to justify the price. Like my original review, the fragrance is also quite strong and I prefer something simpler (like Renee Rouleau Balancing Skin Tonic which is less expensive and almost twice the volume) – OR choose the Reverse Intensive Brightening Toner if you choose to select your products ala cart.

Obviously I wasn’t overly impressed with the prep steps of this regimen, but let’s move on to what IS worth a try.

★★★★★★★★★ (9/10)

The AM & PM creams from the Redefine line are what impressed me the most. I am usually NOT a fan of sunscreen/moisturizer hybrids, but this is one of the few that don’t make me oily (it did the first time around, but my skin is a lot more dry now) or itchy & bumpy. Yes.

Since it’s a fairly basic formulation, I chose to use an anti-oxidant serum (Dermadoctor Kakadu C Serum) underneath for additional benefits. The R+F Reverse Dual Active Brightening Complex would also be a great addition and should layer well under the Redefine moisturizers.

★★★★★★★★ (9/10)

Of the four products in this regimen, this is my favorite. Rich enough for the neck area (love) but doesn’t leave skin feeling heavy or sticky. I use a touch of face oil with retinoid properties (Sunday Riley Luna) prior to the R+F cream to boost anti-aging. The R+F Redefine Night Renewing Serum are single use capsules that contain retinol and are a good choice if you want to stay within the line.

When morning comes, my skin is calm and even. Neither moisturizer caused any breakouts or irritation. I would definitely consider repurchasing this product when the time comes!

I’m not a complete fan of the entire routine, a foaming cleanser, simpler (or more effective) toner and addition of a serum would round it out. The prices are also a bit high for the formulations and I would honestly like to see more effort put into the packaging – or at least a revamp.

However, the moisturizers are solid and effective options for those who need to start an anti-aging routine or are currently using one that isn’t up to par. Seasoned skin care users may feel the need to go ala cart instead of with the pre-packaged routines and should not expect earth shattering results.

That said, my second go-around with Redefine was a good one and I would definitely recommend R+F products if you’re looking for a good skin care regimen – just use the product selection tweaks for max results.
